During the season of merriment and cheer, frenzied and frazzled is an apt description of the way many of us feel. Rushing around like Santa’s right-hand-elf making sure everyone’s wishes come true is hardly a recipe for relaxation. So, in an effort to keep the happy in “Happy Holidays,” one recent evening following a busy day of work and errand-running we made a visit to Hiatus Spa + Retreat.

After slipping into a cozy robe and slippers, we headed to the relaxation room for a bit of tea and some fruit-infused water. (We’re a sucker for some good cucumber water.) After discussing the options with the friendly Hiatus team, we settled on the Yours Truly treatment which included 80 minutes – yes, eight. zero. minutes. – of uninterrupted bliss, customized to meet our specific needs. As with each treatment at Hiatus, ours started with a blissful foot wash before we crawled into a cozy heated bed. Mason, our massage therapist, custom mixed a delightful blend of lavender and sandalwood essential oils to use throughout the session. The next 75 minutes of deep relaxation entailed a full-body dry exfoliation followed by a warm oil massage. The treatment ended perfectly with an energizing scalp massage which gave our stuffy sinuses an unexpected treat. In fact, we can honestly say that the benefits of the essential oils used on our scalp are totally almost worth living with the ensuing greasy roots for a good couple of days! Having offered that recommendation, no worries if you need to make a decently-presentable appearance following your own spa treatment: Hiatus has a fully-appointed shower area complete with Aveda hair products. A seamless, calming and refreshing experience, we left Hiatus feeling merry and bright indeed.
