Spring has sprung in Austin, and the Sustainable Food Center is celebrating the new season with a sumptuous evening of farmhouse dining. Spring Bounty is the latest installment in the SFC’s Chef Series and will be hosted by Rene Ortiz and Lauara Sawicki of La Condesa.
I once ate a carrot that I had personally plucked from the grounds of a local Austin farm. It doesn't sound like much, but the instant I took a bite of bright orange, delicate vegetable, I could taste the difference between this carrot and store bought ones — it was crispy, sweet and left my mouth watering for more of the rare and fresh flavor. On May 10, the Sustainable Food Center will celebrate this startling beauty of organic food during its fourth annual Farm to Plate fundraiser, featuring more than 25 top Central Texas chefs.
Join Chef Shawn Cirkiel at Parkside for an intimate dinner showcasing the best of summer flavors during the TRIBEZA Chef’s Table Series. The evening will kick off with a cocktail hour and passed hors d’oeuvres and continue with five courses crafted with attention to local and seasonal ingredients.
Twice a year, La Condesa hosts the perfect way for Austinites to sample the talent from the city’s top chefs with the Sustainable Food Center’s "Autumn Harvest" and "Spring Bounty" Chef Series. "Spring Bounty" 2011 is just around the corner and will feature a multi-course tasting menu including fresh meats and produce from the Austin Farmers’ Market, as well as local area farms and suppliers. The dinner will also include pairings from Austin’s most innovative mixologists.
