About the Location

The Commodore Perry Estate, a major early 20th-century Austin property listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is undergoing top-to-bottom restoration to continue its historic use as a venue for glamorous social events. The first phase of renovation will focus on the estate’s main building, an elegant 10,000-square-foot Mediterranean Revival mansion. The goal is to return it, as nearly as possible, to its appearance in the 1920s and 1930s, when owner Edgar H. Perry and his family entertained the movers and shakers of Austin society. A group of local investors purchased the nearly 10-acre estate in March 2011. The investor who initiated the purchase, has a personal relationship with the property, having developed a lifelong attachment to it when he was a student at the Perry School in the 1970s. He is supervising the work in conjunction with historic preservation consultant John Volz of Volz & Associates of Austin, and landscape architecture firm Mark Word Design of Austin.
