Mary Catherine Aune & Travis Addy Sikes
Married July 23, 2011

On July 23, 2011, Alabama and Texas fans gathered under one roof to celebrate the union of Mary Catherine Aune and Travis Addy Sikes. There were no fisticuffs, but that didn’t stop some diehards from exchanging friendly banter when the toasts were made. It all started when Mary Catherine (whose brother and father both played football for UT) was playing volleyball for the Crimson Tide and began dating Travis, an Alabama wide receiver. After Travis proposed, on top of the Rockefeller Building during Mary Catherine’s first trip to New York City, the two started planning a wedding that wouldn’t interfere with football season.

When the big day arrived, Mary Catherine walked down the aisle of St. John Neumann Catholic Church looking radiant in a silk taffeta gown by Watters & Watters. “I found the dress on my first day looking. When I tried it on I knew it was the one; it was the only dress I put on that made me feel like a princess,” Mary Catherine says. Later on in the evening, guests danced to the rhythm and beats of Sauce until the wee hours, enjoying themselves despite the football rivalry and her family’s burnt orange blood. Mary Catherine says, “That night everyone was dancing to ‘Sweet Home Alabama,’ listening to the Alabama fight song and eating houndstooth groom’s cake in the Darrell K. Royal ballroom. It was pretty ironic!”
