Stand Strong for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast cancer has impacted each of our lives, whether directly or through a loved one. This month, we’re taking the opportunity to reflect and stand strong with the brave women who have fought and are still fighting breast cancer. We’ve rounded up some of the ways you can show your support.

Komen Austin Race for the Cure Teams Party

Today, October 10, 5-7pm

Meet fellow Race for the Cure Teams during an inspiring evening of conversation, refreshments and door prizes. Meet local Race experts and Komen Koaches, and find out more about the Komen Austin funded breast health program at H.A.N.D. from executive director Amy Temperley. Be sure to RSVP online. The Annual Komen Austin Race for the Cure takes place between November 4 and 14. Participants can sign up at komenaustin.org and on the day of the race. Getting ready for the big Stiletto Stampede? Fuel up at California Pizza Kitchen, where 20% of your check on Wednesday, October 17, will be donated to the organization if you bring the above flyer (please click for the full poster). Participants can pick up their race bags, and all guests will be able to enjoy the cash bar, also benefiting Stiletto Stampede.

Head to Saks Fifth Avenue for the department store’s annual campaign against breast cancer. Guests can enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres and live music—and be sure to pick up your limited-edition Key to the Cure t-shirt, designed exclusively for Saks by Carolina Herrera. 100% of the proceeds from each shirt sold and 2% of purchases between October 18-22 benefit Komen Austin. Tickets are $15 per person, and Key to the Cure t-shirts are available for $35.
 

The Stiletto Stampede

A non-profit organization, the Stiletto Stampede aims to raise breast cancer awareness in quirky, Austin fashion. Sign up for a hundred-yard dash in heels—guys, don’t be shy; there’s a Men in Heels race for you, too—with all proceeds benefiting the Seton Breast Cancer Center. This year, the Austin Stampede will also include the Survivor Stampede Heat, honoring all cancer survivors, a Stroller Stampede Heat for moms and dads, a Celebrity Heat and the Pooch Scooch.

After a day at the races, cool your heels at Icenhauer’s. The Rainey Street staple will be swirling up a delicious blend of Hatch Chile infused tequila, prickly pear puree, agave and fresh lime juice, appropriately named The Hope. $1 from each drink will benefit the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Texas.
